About the Board
The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria (the Board) is a statutory body created through the passing of the Veterinary Practice Act 1997 (PDF). Before 1997, the body that regulated veterinary practitioners was called the Veterinary Board of Victoria, created in 1888 under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1887.
The Board's functions are to:
- register veterinary practitioners
- investigate complaints against veterinary practitioners registered in Victoria
- subject registered veterinary practitioners to disciplinary procedures when appropriate
- issue guidelines
- advise the Minister for Agriculture on any matters relating to the Board's functions.
